you are the miracle
I’ve had several conversations over the past few weeks with clients and people frustrated with the fact they are still dealing with the “same” issues.
“I just want a pill to fix it all!”
And I get it. I really do. I want that, too, a lot of the time.
Here’s the deal though, there isn’t one.
A miracle pill didn’t get you into your situation.
A miracle pill won’t get you out of it.
Have I had clients that are fixed after one treatment with needles? One formula? One virtual visit? Sure. There are always those rare cases where this happens, but it isn’t the norm. Usually, we have to work diligently, consistently, relentlessly to make change happen in our lives.
This is true for me, and it’s true for most everyone I’ve worked with.
I’ve been reflecting over the past month about my move. It was a year ago this week I closed my clinic for good. But, even that was a year in the making and so much work on myself, my business and with my family. That work isn’t done yet. It is still ongoing and probably always will be.
That’s the truth we don’t like to face. The “work,” whatever the work is, never stops. Maybe it slows at times, maybe it's full of massive shifts all at once, but it never stops. Do we always have to do the work? No. I chose not to for years. Until the pain and bitterness of staying how I was, where I was, going through the motions was too much. Then I had to do the work.
“Nothing changes if nothing changes.” So I changed. I changed where I lived. I changed how I delivered my genius, I changed my country, my goals, and what I would allow into my life.
There was heartbreak. Misunderstandings. Fundamental shifts of relationships. Doors slamming closed. Doors bursting wide open. Many of the people I love the dearest and hold the closest don’t understand what I’m doing. Several do. There is room for both.
What does it take to do the work, to become your own miracle pill?
1-decide you want a change
2-figure out a rough idea of what you need to get there
3-be honest about what you do yourself and what resources you are lacking and need help with: If you need help related to health, who supports you in that? Who advocates for you besides yourself? What questions do you have? What knowledge are you seeking? Who can help you get that?
4-ask for that help. You may not get all the answers at once. You may have to work with several people before you find the ones who will benefit you the most. You may have to invest time, money, and other resources into moving the direction that you want to move.
5-do the work. Consistently, diligently, relentlessly.
6-manage your expectations. We are impatient when we heal and grow. We want it all now!!! (yesterday ideally)
I expected overnight success. I remember wondering why I was investing so much time in my personal growth when I “had nothing to show for it,” only for my mentor to send me a 3 page 2 column single spaced list of what I had accomplished, changed, and overcome in the time we had been working together. I didn’t see it. Until she pointed it out. That’s when I realized, dang, my changes weren’t an overnight sensation, but these things were lasting, impressive, and amazing changes that I am immensely proud of.
So, if you’re looking for a miracle pill, start by looking in the mirror and getting honest with yourself; recognize you are the one with the miraculous power.
